IZTOK OSOJNIK was born in 1951 in Ljubljana, and graduated in comparative literature from the University of Ljubljana. He received an MA degree from the Osaka Gaidai University (1980-82). He has published 26 books of poetry, 4 novels, and a collection of literary essays and a collection of political ones. He is also finishing a PhD at Koper University. The most recent poetry publications are: Gospod Danes (Mister Today, 2006), Pesmi Niča (Poems of Nothing, 2007), Dante na GSM (Dante on GSM, 2008), and Sistem za globalno pozicioniranje (Global Positioning System, 2009). The English translations of Mister Today as well as of Some Things Happen for the First Time were published in the United States and Canada. His work has received many awards and has been translated widely into many languages. He has translated poetry from Chinese, English, Spanish and Croatian. For several years he was the director of the international literary festival Vilenica. He is now a free-lance writer and translator.
